Good to know before you go

The ticketing platform of the Brașov museums shows that the Graft Bastion can only be visited from the outside, and the hours for 2026 are not published. The bastion houses a section of the Brașov County History Museum, so if you want to go inside, call the museum first, on 0268 472 350.

The bastion over the stream

The Graft Bastion was built between 1515 and 1521, at the expense of the saddlers' guild, on the north-western side of the Brașov fortress. It was also called the Gate Bastion, because it linked the soldiers inside the fortress with the White Tower on the hill above.

What it has been through

After a severe flood in 1809, the city added three supporting arches over the stream in 1822; two of them were lost in the 20th century. The bastion was renovated in 1976 and again in 2003–2005, when it was fitted out as a museum, with an exhibition of weapons, armour and ammunition used to defend the fortress.

Opening hours and prices (checked 12 October 2026)

The hours for 2026 are not published, and the prices found carry no year, so check the official source (brasovistorie.ro) before your visit. The outside of the bastion can be seen freely from Aleea După Ziduri, and the White Tower, which you will also find in this guide, is right above it.

How to get there

From MAX International in Râșnov, drive towards Brașov on the DN73 through Cristian and enter the city towards the historic centre. Leave the car in a car park in the centre and walk along Aleea După Ziduri, beside the north-western wall of the fortress. You can see the exact distance and time with the navigation buttons on this page.
