Current status (checked 12 October 2026)

The church can only be visited by appointment. The Brașov Tourism listing consulted on 28 April 2026 shows it closed from Monday to Saturday and asks for a request by phone or e-mail for access. Contact the parish before you go: 0268 251 853, 0787 698 452 or 0787 707 359 (Horst Schuller).

The wall that defended the village

The church was built in the 13th century and became, about two centuries later, a single-nave Gothic church. After the first Ottoman invasion, the villagers surrounded it with a wall 8 m high and 2 m thick, with embrasures and machicolations, and built storerooms for provisions inside the enclosure. The fortress also went through the siege of Prince Gabriel Báthory.

Recently restored

Between December 2017 and December 2023, the Evangelical parish of Codlea restored the complex and opened it to tourism, through a project funded by the Regional Operational Programme 2014–2020, worth about 3.2 million lei. The church organ dates from the 1700s. As an indoor visit, it also works in the rain.

Opening hours and prices (checked 12 October 2026)

There are no fixed published hours; access is by appointment. Prices differ between sources: the Brașov Tourism listing gives 5 lei for adults and 3 lei for children over 7, pupils, students, pensioners and the unemployed, while another 2026 listing gives 15 lei for adults, 10 lei for pupils, students and pensioners and 5 lei for children over 6.
