Current status (checked 12 October 2026)

We found no published opening hours for 2026. The last public information, from 2022, said the church could be visited only by prior appointment. The tower, damaged by the 1977 earthquake, was later stabilised. Call before you set off.

A church rebuilt several times

Bod is called Brenndorf in German and Botfalu in Hungarian. The first church was a 13th-century Romanesque basilica with a bell tower; a travel blog reads the year 1310 on the tower. The church appears in a document dated 9 November 1390. Fires, Ottoman raids after 1418 and earthquakes brought it down, and sources give different years for the collapse: 1790 and 1802.

What you see today

The present church was built between 1804 and 1806 as a hall church in the Classicist style. Only the Gothic baptismal font from 1491 survives from the medieval church. The enclosure wall was demolished in 1865, except for a small section on the east side. The old bells were lost when the tower collapsed; today a bell that escaped wartime requisitions and two bronze bells from 1922 are used.

Opening hours and prices (checked 12 October 2026)

Opening hours and prices are not published — check the official source. The church's Brașov Tourism page lists the phone number 0268 283 172; the booking number published in 2022 is not confirmed for 2026. The 180 lei price that appears online was for an organised trip, not for entry to the church. The visit is indoors, so it also works when it rains.

Getting there

The church is at Strada Tudor Vladimirescu no. 134 in Bod, north of Brașov. From MAX International drive towards Brașov, then towards Bod. The exact coordinates of the church are not published, so enter the address in your navigation. Bod can be combined on one tour with the fortified churches of Sânpetru and Hărman.
