Current status (checked 12 October 2026)
The canyon is open in season: the press announced the opening from 1 May 2026, and the official rules provide for closure in December–February. Hours can change depending on the weather, so check canionul7scari.ro or call 0746 772 274 before you set off.
Seven steps of water
The canyon was cut by the Șapte Scări brook in the Piatra Mare massif. It is about 160 m long and around 58 m deep. The name comes from the seven rock steps, between about 2.5 and 15 m high, which become waterfalls when the brook's flow rises. The steps are climbed on ladders, without climbing equipment.
The zip line
Next to the canyon there is a zip line, with a full route, a half route and zip lines for children. The length of the route is given differently from one source to another, so check the details on the official website.
