Current status (checked 12 October 2026)

The waterfall can be visited freely, on a mountain trail; there are no published hours or tickets for 2026. Caution: access through the canyon is on metal stairs that several sources describe as degraded, slippery and unsafe, and the press has reported that the redevelopment project announced years ago was never carried out. In winter, ice makes the passage through the canyon dangerous. The current condition of the trail is not officially published.

Five steps of water in Piatra Mare

The Tamina Waterfall lies in the Piatra Mare Massif, on the upper course of the Pietrei Mici Valley, at about 1,100 m altitude. The water drops in five steps, the tallest about 10 m high, through a narrow canyon with steep walls. The area is part of the Piatra Mare Natura 2000 site, and the canyon walls are also used for climbing.

Who it suits

It is a mountain hike: you need suitable footwear and care on the sections with stairs. The trail is not suitable for pushchairs, nor for rainy days, when the rocks and stairs become slippery. From the waterfall, the marked path continues towards Coada Pietrei Mari.

Opening hours and prices (checked 12 October 2026)

2026 hours: not published; the latest information found, on a 2022 page, indicates round-the-clock access. Fee: not published — check the official source before you go. From the DN1 to the waterfall it is about 1–1.5 hours on foot along the blue stripe markings; the forest road option is almost 4 km and about 2 hours.

Getting there

The trail starts from the DN1, at Timișu de Sus, which belongs to the town of Predeal, at the forest road barrier, along the blue stripe markings.
