By appointment only (checked 12 October 2026)
The Șinca old-growth forest can be visited only by appointment made in advance with the Pădurile Șincii forest district, in groups of 5 to 15 people accompanied by a forester. According to ProPark (information from 2 June 2026), the trail is open to booked visits and no closure has been announced. There is no phone signal on the trail.
A UNESCO beech forest
Since July 2017, the Șinca old-growth forest has been part of the transnational UNESCO site of the primeval and ancient beech forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe. The core zone covers about 338 hectares, and together with the buffer zone the site reaches 784 hectares.
The thematic trail
The trail climbs along the valley of the Strâmbișoara stream and takes an hour and a half on average, but it can exceed two hours if you stop to observe the forest. It is entirely outdoors, so choose a day without rain and footwear suited to a forest path.
