A flying giant that bears the name of Țara Hațegului

Few tourists know that one of prehistory's most spectacular predators was named after a region in Romania. At Dino Parc Râșnov you meet Hatzegopteryx thambema, a flying reptile whose name points directly to the Hațeg basin, where palaeontologists discovered its fossils. With a wingspan that places it among the largest flying animals ever known, it is the star that links this park to the real story of the dinosaurs on our country's soil.

The largest dinosaur park in south-eastern Europe

Opened in 2015 at the foot of Cetatea Râșnov, the park stretches over roughly four hectares and is considered the largest of its kind in south-eastern Europe. Scattered along its paths are more than a hundred life-size reproductions, made according to the latest palaeontological discoveries and in collaboration with institutions such as the Muzeul Național de Istorie Naturală Grigore Antipa. In this way, a stroll among the models becomes more of a living science lesson than a simple family attraction.

What you see among the trees

The park's most imposing resident is the Seismosaurus, a huge sauropod almost 45 metres long, whose name suggests that its every step would have shaken the earth. Some of the models are animatronic; they move and make sounds that put the little ones' courage to the test. Beyond the dinosaurs, you can see a real meteorite discovered in Romania and a nest of eggs from Țara Hațegului, authentic testimonies of the geological past.

More than models

The park blends the educational side with active fun. It has a cinema with special effects, an interactive volcano and a platform that simulates earthquakes, a laser maze, as well as adventure trails, a zip line and tree houses with small scientific exhibitions. It is the kind of place where children run from one experience to the next, while adults find explanations worth reading.

How to get there and what to keep in mind

Dino Parc is right in Râșnov, on Strada Cetății, very close to the medieval fortress, so it can easily be combined with a climb up to the fortress on the same day. Being in town, it is just a few steps from the MAX International area. Opening hours and prices may change depending on the season, so check the schedule and fares on the official source before your visit.
