What to know first (checked 12 October 2026)
The Casa Mureșenilor Museum is at Piața Sfatului no. 25, in the historic centre of Brașov. The sources consulted do not give the same opening days: the official price page states Tuesday–Saturday, while other listings give other days. Call ahead on 0268 477 864 so you don't find the door closed.
The house of a Brașov family
The museum opened in 1968, starting from a donation by the descendants of the Mureșianu family, and since 1998 it has been an autonomous institution under Brașov County Council. The building, a historic monument, is one of the old buildings of Piața Sfatului and today has a Renaissance-inspired façade.
What you see
The exhibition is dedicated to the Mureșianu family: the poet Andrei Mureșanu, author of the lyrics of the anthem “Deșteaptă-te, române!”, the publicist Iacob Mureșianu, linked to the “Gazeta de Transilvania”, the journalist Aurel Mureșianu and the composer Iacob Mureșianu (1857–1917). Furniture, paintings, sculpture and musical instruments are on display, and the family archive holds more than 25,000 documents, some of them tied to the history of the national anthem. As an indoor visit, it also works on a rainy day.
