Current status (checked 12 October 2026)
The museum is temporarily closed for renovation, according to the official page consulted on 5 October 2026. Local press (Transilvania 365) writes that the museum closed in 2024 and is due to pass from county administration to the Săcele town hall. No reopening date has been published, so check before you set off.
A tithe house almost five centuries old
The museum is housed in a listed historic building, documented since 1543, which for three centuries was the place where the tithe was collected. The building was altered over time, and its present appearance dates from 1804. After 1848 it lost its original role and was given other public uses. Since 1990 it has been a branch of the Brașov Ethnographic Museum.
What you find in the collections
The exhibition is about the life of the Mocani and the Csángó of Săcele: historical documents, pieces of folk costume, objects connected with the carting trade of the Săcele Mocani, tools, household objects and reconstructed traditional interiors. As an indoor museum, it is a good option for a rainy day, once it reopens.
