A wild cave on Postăvarul
The Milk Cave (Peștera de Lapte) lies on the northern slope of the Postăvarul Massif, above the Poiana Brașov resort. It is not a cave fitted out for tourism like Valea Cetății near Râșnov: the sources publish no operator, opening hours or tickets, and you can only reach it on foot, on a marked mountain trail.
What you find inside
The passage is about 170 metres long. The first 30 metres or so get light from the entrance; beyond that it is dark and you need a torch. Bring mountain footwear and an extra layer, and if you go with children, keep them close: nothing in the cave is fitted out.
The trail
The Munții Noștri trail guide (consulted on 12 October 2026) describes the blue-dot trail, no. 53, which links Poiana Brașov and the Sulinar Salvamont post to the cave: about 4.8 km, 2–2.5 hours uphill and a height difference of about 400 metres. The trail passes a spring, climbs to Poiana lui Drester and continues for about 15 minutes along the contour to the entrance. In winter, deep snow can cause problems.
Opening hours and prices (checked 12 October 2026)
There are no hours or prices published by an operator. A listings site (UndeMergem, 2026) shows it as open around the clock, but this is not officially confirmed. The length of a visit and accessibility are not published; check the trail conditions with the official source, Salvamont Brașov, before you set off.
How to get there
From MAX International in Râșnov, drive to Poiana Brașov. The trail starts near the spring at Cariera Veche (the old quarry); follow the blue-dot marking and take a trail map or an app that works without signal. You can see the distance and time to the starting point with the navigation buttons on this page.
