The reserve is open daily, according to an interview with its manager broadcast by Radio Romania International in August 2026. No booking is needed. The prices in that interview are higher than those published on the official website in 2025, so check the price at the ticket office or by phone before you go.
At home with the bison
The Valea Zimbrilor reserve lies at the edge of the village of Acriș, in the commune of Vama Buzăului, at the foot of the Ciucaș Mountains. It was inaugurated in November 2008 and was the fourth European bison reserve to open in Romania. The bison live here on a fenced pasture, and visitors can see them up close from the fence.
What to do here
At the ticket office you can buy a bag of carrots to feed the animals through the fence. The ticket also includes an exhibition of stuffed animals, and the reserve has a mini-farm with domestic animals that children enjoy. Most of the visit is outdoors, so in the rain only the exhibition is under cover.
