The synagogue on Poarta Șchei street
The Brașov Synagogue stands on Poarta Șchei street, in the historic centre, between the Council Square and the Șchei Gate. It was built between 1899 and 1901 to plans by the architect Lipót Baumhorn and was inaugurated on 20 August 1901. It is a historic monument and a place of worship of the Jewish community of Brașov.
What you see
The building is in neo-Gothic style with Moorish touches. It was originally the synagogue of the Neolog community; today it is used by the city's Jewish community. Brașov has a second synagogue, the Orthodox one on Castelului street, built in 1924 in Moorish style.
