A cable ride that takes you straight onto the plateau
Few places in the Carpathians offer such a quick transition from an elegant resort to the open world of the heights. From Sinaia, the gondola lifts you above the fir forests and drops you at Cota 2000, right on the threshold of the Bucegi plateau, where the landscape suddenly becomes broad, rocky and wind-swept. It is the most comfortable way to the heart of the Bucegi, without the effort of the long climb on foot.
Two sections, two worlds
The route is covered in two distinct stages. The first section links the town of Sinaia to Cota 1400, climbing above the rooftops and the forest. The second section, known as the Carp Gondola, continues from Cota 1400 up to Cota 2000, above the ski slopes and the Valea cu Brazi. You can combine the two segments for a complete ascent from the town all the way up the mountain, or you can choose only the upper portion.
The Carp Gondola and the altitude record
The upper section was inaugurated in February 2016 and was presented as one of the most modern cable transport installations in the country. It is about 2,000 metres long, and its eight-person cabins carry hundreds of people per hour up to the heights. The arrival station, at over 2,000 metres, is among the highest points reached by such an installation in Romania, and in certain sections the cabins float dozens of metres above the Valea cu Brazi.
What awaits you up at Cota 2000
Cota 2000 is the classic gateway onto the Bucegi plateau. From here start marked trails towards the mountain's famous landmarks: Babele and the Sphinx, the Piatra Arsă complex, farther on towards Omu Peak, the highest peak of the Bucegi, or descents towards the Ialomița Cave and Monastery. Even for those who do not set off on a hike, the broad view over the Prahova Valley and the surrounding ridges is worth the ride. The weather changes quickly at altitude, however, and strong wind can temporarily halt the cable, so a thick layer of clothing is always welcome.
Access from Râșnov
For guests in the Râșnov area, Sinaia lies south of Brașov, in the Prahova Valley, about an hour's drive along the national road. It is a very accessible day trip from the MAX International region, ideal to combine with a stroll through the resort. Since the schedule and fares change according to the season and the weather conditions, check the schedule and fares on the official source before your visit.
