Traseu: Bran – Șaua Țigănești – Cabana Omu (bandă roșie)

A long, sustained climb of almost 2,000 m, from Bran along Culmea Clincea and over Șaua Țigănești to Cabana Omu, with sections equipped with cables and chains. Waymark: red stripe (code 01MN21). Distance: 15.02 km according to Munții Noștri, 15.2 km according to OpenStreetMap. Elevation: 1,917 m of ascent and 183 m of descent. Duration: 9:15 h; the Munții Noștri description speaks of about 9 h. Difficulty: medium/difficult.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route crosses the village of Poarta to the foot of the Bran ski slope, climbs past the Salvamont Bran base and along the left side of the slope, then through the forest, past a spring with a resting spot, through Poiana Pănicerului and Poiana Clincii, with views of Măgura Codlei and Brașov. It reaches the alpine zone at the place called „La stânci”, heads towards Muntele Țigănești (2,214 m) and reaches Șaua Țigănești (2,195 m), where a large refuge stands about 20 m below the saddle. It climbs between the Țigănești Towers on a path equipped with cables and chains, above Hornul Țigănești, to the plateau of Vârful Scara (2,422 m), then descends below the Țigănești limestone window to Șaua Hornurilor and climbs 30–45 minutes to Cabana Omu (2,507 m).

Safety

In winter the route is not recommended and is described as inaccessible. Water: a spring in the forest, with a resting spot. Shelters: the refuge at Șaua Țigănești (for 20–25 people, according to the source), the remains of a refuge destroyed by the wind on the Vârful Scara plateau, and Cabana Omu, at the end. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. The source recommends it to experienced hikers used to about 2,000 m of elevation gain. The risk of bears is not published in our sources. Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73 towards Bran. The route starts in Bran and first passes through the village of Poarta. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Cabana Omu is at 2,507 m and can only be reached on foot.
