Traseu: Bran – Vârful Scara – Cabana Omu (triunghi galben)

A sustained climb of almost 2,000 m, from Bran up the Ciubotea Valley and Muchia Ciubotea, over Vârful Scara, to Cabana Omu; not recommended in winter. Waymark: yellow triangle (code 01MN22). Distance: 13.12 km according to Munții Noștri, 13.4 km according to OpenStreetMap. Elevation: 1,909 m of ascent and 175 m of descent. Duration: 6:45 h; the Munții Noștri description speaks of about 7 h. Difficulty: difficult according to P2, medium/difficult according to the Munții Noștri page.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route crosses the village of Poarta, climbs the Ciubotea Valley past the Salvamont Ciubotea base and reaches a long clearing with a dilapidated forestry hut. It climbs the steps and the three glacial cirques of the valley, passes a shepherds' shelter and climbs Muchia Ciubotea for about 45 minutes, over rocky steps, to just below Vârful Scara. On Podul Spintecăturilor it joins the red stripe from Culmea Clincea, crosses the Vârful Scara plateau (2,422 m), descends below the Țigănești limestone window to Șaua Hornurilor and climbs 30–45 minutes to Cabana Omu (2,507 m). Along the way you see Colții Ciubotei and the Țigănești Towers.

Safety

In winter the route is not recommended and is described as inaccessible. Water sources are not published, so set off with enough water. Shelters, according to the source: a dilapidated forestry hut in Poiana Ciubotei, a shepherds' shelter, the remains of a refuge destroyed by the wind on the Vârful Scara plateau, and Cabana Omu, at the end. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. The source recommends it to experienced hikers used to about 2,000 m of elevation gain. The risk of bears is not published in our sources. Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73 towards Bran. The route starts in Bran and first passes through the village of Poarta. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Cabana Omu is at 2,507 m and can only be reached on foot.
