Where it goes

It descends past Peștera Monastery into the Ialomița Valley, passes Cabana Padina, goes through the Coteanu and Tătaru gorges, along Lake Bolboci, past Cabana Zănoaga and through the Zănoaga Mare gorges to the former Cabana Scropoasa. It continues through the Ialomița gorges, past the Dobrești hydropower station and the Vânătorul and Căprioara camps, through the village of Pucheni, to Pietroșița station.

Safety

In winter the Bușteni – Cabana Caraiman section is inaccessible, and there is avalanche danger on Jepii Mici. Water: three springs in the Zănoaga Mare gorges. Huts on the route, according to Munții Noștri: Caraiman, Babele, Hotel Peștera, Padina, Bolboci, Zănoaga; Cabana Scropoasa is out of use; there is a Salvamont refuge on Jepii Mici. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. Caution: on Jepii Mici the path is rocky and narrow, with cables and chains; the source considers it difficult without suitable equipment. Munții Noștri shows a user warning (11 April 2026) that a bridge is broken, and P2 notes that the bridge between Lake Scropoasa and the Vânătorul camp is broken, so the Ialomița has to be forded, which is possible but difficult. The Orza gorges, next to the route, are closed to the public. The risk of bears is not published in our sources. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). The route is not in Brașov County; P2 lists Salvamont Brașov (0736 628 948), but the local Salvamont service has not been checked.
