In brief (checked 13 October 2026)

Trail 05MN61 is marked with a blue stripe and links Cheișoara, in the area of the former Cheia hut on the DN73A, with Poiana Brașov, through the Valea Poienii. It is 7.6 km long, with a height difference of about 350 m, and takes 2.5–3.5 h. Difficulty: difficult. The figures come from the P2 report, which describes it as fairly demanding.

Where it goes

From the forest road that climbs from the former Cheia hut towards the Râșnoava Gorge, the blue stripe marking branches off to the left, towards Poiana Brașov, through Cheișoara and Prăpastia Dracului (the Devil's Chasm), according to the Munții Noștri atlas. Further on, the trail follows the Valea Poienii up to Poiana Brașov. P2 mentions a spring at the confluence with the Valea Groapa de Aur. Other landmarks on the route do not appear in the sources consulted, so follow the map in the links on this page.

Safety

According to P2, in rainy periods the water flow can rise and the gorge sections can carry a risk of torrents with debris: do not set off after heavy rain or when a storm is forecast. Bear risk and winter conditions are not published. The only shelter P2 gives is the former Cheia hut at the start; do not count on it as a shelter. The only water source mentioned is the spring at the confluence with the Valea Groapa de Aur, so carry water. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Information: Salvamont Brașov, county service, 0736 628 948.
