Traseu: Fosta Cabană Cheia – Predeal (triunghi galben)

Trail 05MN46 is marked with a yellow triangle and links the former Cheia hut, on the DN73A, with Predeal, through the Râșnoava Gorge. It is 10.4 km long, with 580 m of ascent and 240 m of descent, and takes 3 h 30 min – 4 h 15 min. Difficulty: medium. The figures come from the P2 report and the Munții Noștri atlas.

Warning: according to P2, the yellow triangle markings are old and faded, and the path is described as non-existent and wild. This is not a trail for a first hike in the area.

Where it goes

From the former Cheia hut you follow the forest road towards the Râșnoava Gorge, for a while together with the red triangle marking (trail 45). The next section climbs steeply up the Tocilița Valley, passes the Poiana Secuilor hut and descends to the entrance of Predeal, according to the Munții Noștri description. The same source notes that much of the trail can also be done by mountain bike.

Safety

Bear risk, water sources and winter conditions are not published for this trail, so ask beforehand and carry water. The Poiana Secuilor hut is on the route; the sources consulted do not confirm whether it is currently open. The Cheia hut at the start appears in the sources as a former hut, so do not count on it as a shelter. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73A, the road to Predeal. The former Cheia hut is on the DN73A, where the forest road to the Râșnoava Gorge begins. Parking at the start is not published. The trail ends in Predeal, far from the starting point, so plan in advance how you will get back.
