Traseu: Fosta Cabană Cheia – Timișu de Sus (triunghi roșu)

Trail 05MN45 is marked with a red triangle and links the former Cheia hut, on the DN73A, with the Timișu de Sus railway halt. It is 9.3 km long. The height difference is about 350 m according to the P2 report; the Munții Noștri atlas gives 350 m of ascent and 300 m of descent. Duration: 3.5–4 h according to P2 and the Munții Noștri text, while the Munții Noștri technical sheet gives 3 h 30 min – 3 h 45 min. Difficulty: easy according to P2, medium according to Munții Noștri.

Where it goes

From the former Cheia hut you follow the forest road towards the Râșnoava Gorge, at first together with the yellow triangle marking (trail 46). The trail crosses the access road to the gorge, climbs steeply over Spinarea Calului and then descends to Timișu de Sus, according to the Munții Noștri description. According to P2, markings are sparse in the Cheii Valley, so follow the map. Some sections can also be ridden by mountain bike. The gorge walls are known for their climbing routes.

Safety

Bear risk, water sources and winter conditions are not published for this trail, so ask beforehand and carry water. The only built landmark P2 gives is the former Cheia hut at the start; do not count on it as a shelter. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73A, the road to Predeal. The former Cheia hut is on the DN73A, where the forest road to the Râșnoava Gorge begins. Parking at the start is not published. The trail ends at the Timișu de Sus halt, far from the starting point, so plan in advance how you will get back.
