A long, full-day route along the ridge between the Bucegi and the Leaota. Waymark: red stripe (code 01MN30). Distance: 20.44 km according to Munții Noștri, 20.6 km according to OpenStreetMap. Elevation: P2 gives 1,320 m of ascent and 1,070 m of descent; the English page of Munții Noștri gives 1,070 m of ascent and 820 m of descent. Duration: 6:15–7:45 h according to P2; 5:30–7:00 h on the English page. Difficulty: medium/difficult.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route leaves the commune of Fundata, passes through the village of Fundățica and climbs Șleaul Mândrului to Șaua Fiarelor, the saddle that separates the Bucegi Mountains from the Leaota Mountains. It continues over several peaks below 2,000 m (Sfântul Ilie, Piscul Lacului, Bucșa, Strungile Mici) and through the saddles between them, passes below Colții Strunga to Șaua Strunga, then descends below Muntele Colți to Padina Hut. The source describes it as suited to hikers used to repeated climbs and descents.

Safety

In winter the route is passable, but heavy snow can cause problems. The source mentions two water collection points; the springs are not published, so set off with enough water. Shelters: the Strunga refuge and Padina Hut, at the end. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. The risk of bears is not published in our sources. Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73 towards Bran. Go past Bran and stay on the same road, through Moieciu, to Fundata. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Padina Hut is in the Bucegi, far from Fundata.
