Traseu: Moieciu de Sus – Șaua Strunga – Cabana Padina (cruce roșie)

A demanding route that climbs to Șaua Strunga (1,909 m) and descends to Cabana Padina. Waymark: red cross (code 01MN29). Distance: 12.78 km according to Munții Noștri, 12.9 km according to OpenStreetMap. Elevation: 1,025 m of ascent and 471 m of descent. Duration: 5:30 h; the Munții Noștri description speaks of about 5–6 h. Difficulty: medium/difficult.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route leaves Moieciu de Sus along the Bângăleasa Valley and then the Grohotiș Valley, first on a forest road, then on a footpath. It climbs Valea Seacă a Prăvalelor to the foot of the alpine meadows, then to about 1,700 m and up to Șaua Strunga (1,909 m), with the Strunga refuge just below. The descent follows the left slope of the Coteanu Valley, past the Strunga sheepfold, to Cabana Padina (1,509 m). Along the way you see Strungile Mari, Strungile Mici and the western escarpment of the Bucegi.

Safety

In winter, according to Munții Noștri, heavy snow can cause problems. Water: a single spring, about 5 minutes off the route, piped; in dry periods it may not flow. Shelters: the Strunga refuge and Cabana Padina, at the end. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. The risk of bears is not published in our sources. Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73 towards Bran. From Bran, head up to Moieciu de Sus. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Cabana Padina is in the Bucegi, far from Moieciu.
