Waymark: blue cross (code 05MN60). Distance: 3.5 km. Elevation: 610 m up, 30 m down. Duration: 2–2.5 h. Difficulty: medium.
Where it goes
The route, also known as Drumul lui Julius Romer (named after a Brașov botanist), links Poiana Brașov with the Postăvaru hut, bypassing the ski slopes through the Padina Lăutei ravine. The first waymark is on the fence of the artificial skating rink in the south-east of the resort, where it meets the old Poiana road; as far as Prăpastia Lupului (Wolf's Chasm) the path is shared with the red dot and blue dot waymarks. You cross the Lupului ski slope, climb a forestry track and then the ever steeper bed of Padina Lăutei; in the forest you meet the red cross (Drumul Roșu), which takes you to the hut in about 30 minutes. On the way you can see the northern face of the Bucegi.
Safety
With about 600 m to climb in 3.5 km, the route is quite demanding, and in Padina Lăutei the gradient exceeds 33%. In winter, deep snow can cause problems. Water sources on the way are not published. The shelter is the Postăvaru (Julius Romer) hut itself, at the end of the route; check in advance whether it is open. Bear risk is not published in our sources. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Salvamont Brașov (municipal service, Poiana Doamnei 20B): 0368 103 194.
