In short (checked 13 October 2026)

Waymark: blue dot (code 05MN53). Distance: 4.8 km. Elevation: 425 m up, 325 m down. Duration: 2–2.5 h. Difficulty: medium.

Where it goes

The route starts from the old Poiana road (Drumul Vechi al Poienii), follows Poiana lui Stechil street and reaches a spring, above which it climbs steadily to Poiana lui Drester (1,300 m), where it meets the Yellow Road. From there it heads north along a steep slope with several viewpoints over Poiana Brașov, the Brașov basin and Piatra Craiului. In about 15 minutes you reach the Milk Cave (Peștera de Lapte): the entrance is narrow, marked only by a small plaque, and easy to miss when the vegetation is thick; the name comes from the white 'moonmilk' deposit on its walls. You continue through spruce forest to a fork and descend to the right to the Salvamont shelter by the Sulinar ski slope, then back to Poiana Brașov on the yellow triangle and the red cross.

Safety

With about 425 m to climb, the route is of medium difficulty. In winter, deep snow can cause problems. Near the start it passes a spring. On the way there is the Salvamont shelter by the Sulinar ski slope. Pay attention after the viewpoints so as not to miss the cave entrance. Bear risk is not published in our sources. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Salvamont Brașov (municipal service, Poiana Doamnei 20B): 0368 103 194.
