Traseu: Râșnov – Poiana Brașov (cruce galbenă)

Trail 05MN44 is marked with a yellow cross and climbs from Râșnov, through the Valea Poienii, up to Poiana Brașov. It is 9 km long with a height difference of about 550 m; the Munții Noștri atlas gives 550 m of ascent and 160 m of descent. Duration: 3.5–4 h according to the P2 report, 3 h – 3 h 30 min according to Munții Noștri. Difficulty: medium, in both sources.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the marking starts at the junction with the road to Zărnești, where you turn towards Poiana Brașov on Strada Uzinei and then on the DJ1E, at the foot of Râșnov Fortress. A good part of the trail follows the paved road. After the Valea Cetății camping area, at the first bends to the right, the marking leaves the road and climbs moderately, then steeply (a 24.1% gradient), up to the saddle between Râșnov and Poiana Brașov. There it meets the red triangle trail Cristian–Poiana Brașov and the Drumul Albastru (Blue Trail). The atlas describes it as a trail with no route-finding problems, popular with cycle tourists, and P2 recommends it for mountain biking.

Safety

Bear risk, water sources and winter conditions are not published for this trail, so ask beforehand and carry water. P2 lists the Cabana Vânătorilor as a landmark; the sources consulted do not say whether it is currently open. On the road sections, watch out for cars. Getting to the start

The trail starts right in Râșnov, the town where you are staying at MAX International: the starting point is at the junction of the road to Zărnești with Strada Uzinei, and you can see the exact way with the navigation buttons on this page. Parking at the start is not published. The trail ends in Poiana Brașov, so plan in advance how you will get back.
