Traseu: Șimon – Vâlcelul Guțanului – Poiana Guțanu (bandă albastră)

A steady half-day climb from the village of Șimon to Poiana Guțanu, below the western escarpment of the Bucegi. Waymark: blue stripe (code 01MN26). Distance: 11.5 km (Munții Noștri and OpenStreetMap). Elevation: 750 m of ascent and 24 m of descent. Duration: 3:45 h; the Munții Noștri description speaks of about 4 h. Difficulty: medium/difficult.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route crosses the village of Șimon and climbs the forest road in the Șimon Valley, then alongside Vâlcelul Guțanului, on Muchia Pietrele Albe, through conifer forest to a long clearing. From there a footpath climbs to the forest road towards Poiana Guțanu, which it follows for 40–45 minutes, passes below the old sheepfold and ends above the former Bângăleasa hunting lodge. From Poiana Guțanu, the red triangle continues to Șaua Bătrâna, the red stripe to Șaua Strunga and the blue triangle to Poiana Gaura. The source especially recommends the route in spring, when it is full of flowers.

Safety

In winter, according to Munții Noștri, heavy snow can cause problems. Water sources are not published, so set off with enough water. Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, take the DN73 towards Bran. From Bran, continue to the village of Șimon. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Poiana Guțanu is a mountain clearing: you return on foot, the same way or on one of the routes that start there.
