Traseu: Sinaia – Șaua Vârfului cu Dor – Cabana Padina (bandă roșie)

A full-day climb from Sinaia via Cota 1400 and Vârful cu Dor, then along the Izvorul Dorului Valley and over Șaua Lăptici to Cabana Padina. Waymark: red stripe (code 01MN01). Distance: 14.2 km (Munții Noștri and OpenStreetMap). Elevation: 1,289 m of ascent and 590 m of descent. Duration: 7:00 h; P2 gives 6–7 h. Difficulty: medium/difficult.

Where it goes

According to Munții Noștri, the route leaves Sinaia station, climbs stairs past Dimitrie Ghica Park and Furnica Street, then between houses, cutting the road's hairpins, to Cota 1400. It follows the Summer Road (Drumul de Vară) past Cabana Valea cu Brazi (about 1,500 m) to about 1,700 m, passes Piatra Turcului and the former Vârful cu Dor hut and reaches Șaua Vârfului cu Dor (Curmătura Dorului), with views of Colții lui Barbeș. It descends towards the Valea Soarelui ski slope, climbs the Izvorul Dorului Valley to Șaua Lăptici (where it meets a paved road), descends the Lăptici Valley, crosses the access road to Hotel Peștera and climbs to Cabana Padina.

Safety

In winter, Munții Noștri describes a variant through the forest, on a path with tight hairpins, up to about 1,700 m, instead of the Summer Road (Drumul de Vară). The source does not say how passable the rest of the route is in winter. Water sources are not published, so set off with enough water. Huts on the route, according to the source: Cabana Brădet, Cabana Valea cu Brazi, the former Vârful cu Dor hut and Cabana Padina, at the end. Check beforehand whether the huts are open and have room. The route is not in Brașov County; P2 lists Salvamont Brașov (0736 628 948), but the local Salvamont service has not been checked.

Getting to the start

Sinaia is in the Prahova Valley; from MAX International in Râșnov you get there via Brașov and Predeal. Parking at the start is not published in our sources. The route does not return to the start, so plan your way back beforehand. Cabana Padina is in the Bucegi, far from Sinaia.
