Where it goes

The route starts below the entrance to the 7 Ladders Canyon, bypasses the wall fitted with metal ladders, passes under Prăpastia Urșilor (the Bears' Precipice) and comes out on Drumul Familiar, the red stripe route to Cabana Piatra Mare and Piatra Mare Peak, which has its own page in this guide. It is the link used by those who do not want, or are not able, to go through the canyon. Other landmarks on the way are not published in our sources; check the route on the Munții Noștri or Waymarked Trails map.

Safety

The route can be walked in winter: according to Munții Noștri, it is used precisely to bypass the canyon ladders, which are closed in winter. Water: the Șipoaia stream and the Urșilor stream, described as a dry valley bed, so bring water from home. Shelters: not published. Bear risk is not published in our sources; the place is called the Bears' Precipice, so do not leave food in sight. Getting to the start

The start is on the yellow stripe route Dâmbu Morii – 7 Ladders Canyon, described on its own page in this guide. Dâmbu Morii belongs to Săcele and lies next to the DN1 road, between Brașov and Predeal. From MAX International in Râșnov, drive towards Brașov, then along the DN1 towards Predeal as far as Dâmbu Morii, then walk up the Șipoaia valley to below the canyon.
