Traseu: Timișu de Jos – Cabana Postăvaru – Brașov (bandă albastră)

Waymark: blue stripe (code 05MN49). Distance: 19.3 km. Elevation: over 1,500 m (P2); Munții Noștri: 1,435 m of ascent and 1,510 m of descent. Duration: 9–10 h. Difficulty: difficult (P2); medium/difficult (Munții Noștri).

Where it goes

The route crosses the Postăvaru massif. It starts in Timișu de Jos, next to the DN1, and climbs the Drumul Șerpilor (Serpents' Road) to the saddle below Postăvaru Peak; from the saddle the summit (1,799 m) is a few minutes away, on a path fitted with railings. It passes the Postăvaru (Julius Romer) hut, at 1,604 m, then descends along the Crucuru ridge towards the Dârste district of Brașov, according to Munții Noștri. On the variant below Crucuru Mic the waymarks are sparse, and a review cited by our sources says the route is degraded.

Safety

In winter the route is only partly passable: the Timișu de Jos – Drumul Șerpilor – saddle below Postăvaru Peak section is closed because of avalanche risk. Water sources and bear risk are not published in our sources, so set off with plenty of water. Shelters: the Postăvaru (Julius Romer) hut and the Salvamont Postăvaru hut; check in advance whether they are open. With 19.3 km and over 1,400 m of ascent, it is a long mountain day, and the sources recommend splitting it into stages. In an emergency call 112 or 0SALVAMONT (0725 826 668). Getting to the start

From MAX International in Râșnov, drive towards Brașov and from there on the DN1 towards Predeal, as far as Timișu de Jos. The sources give the car park at the Petrom petrol station in Timișu de Jos, on the DN1. The route ends in Brașov, in the Dârste district, far from the car, so plan in advance how you will get back.
